- Rep. Lofgren Says Final Jan. 6 Committee Hearing Will Contain “Pretty Surprising” New Information
On Thursday, October 13, the House January 6th Committee will hold its final public hearing, concluding a series of hearings started during the summer. Committee member Rep. Zoe Lofgren said on Tuesday that the hearing will include new, “pretty surprising” material. According to Lofgren, the committee’s ninth public hearing will look at the “close ties between people in Trump world and some of these extremist groups.” She also said that the hearing will focus on what the former president’s intentions and actions were overall. “We’re going to be going through, really some of what we’ve already found, but augmenting with new material that we’ve discovered through our work throughout this summer,” Lofgren said in an interview with CNN this week. The committee’s hearing will take place at 1 p.m. ET on Thursday, October 13. The hearing was initially scheduled to take place in late September, but was rescheduled due to Hurricane Ian. The same week the hearing was originally set to take place, the committee interviewed Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, behind closed doors. She reportedly engaged in efforts to push Trump administration officials and others to overturn the 2020 election results. It is unclear if Thursday’s hearing will feature any of Thomas’ long-awaited testimony. In her interview, Lofgren also revealed that the January 6th Committee has been working on a report to complete by the end of the year, which will recommend “policy changes to make us more secure in the future.” Watch the committee’s ninth public hearing and catch up on the previous hearings.
