1st January 6th Committee Hearing

The House Select Committee on January 6th held its first public hearing on Thursday, June 9th to lay out the facts about the attack on the Capitol. In never-before-seen footage of the riot, viewers saw scenes of rioters attacking police officers. Witnesses testified that the attack on the Capitol was not an accident. It was a coordinated operation.

  • Police Officer Caroline Edwards testified that rioters knocked her unconscious and described January 6th as a “war scene.”

  • “It was carnage. It was chaos,” she said. “It was just hours of hand-to-hand combat, hours of dealing with things that were way beyond any law enforcement officer has ever trained for.”

  • Ivanka Trump said she respected Attorney General Bill Barr and accepted his assessment that there was no widespread voter fraud and that her father, Donald Trump, had lost the election.

  • Multiple GOP members of Congress, including Scott Perry, asked Donald Trump for pardons for their role in January 6th.

  • Proud Boys testified their membership tripled after Trump asked them to "Stand by" during a Presidential debate.

Documentary Filmmaker Nick Quested testified he saw Proud Boys Leader Enrique Tarrio meet with Oath Keepers Leader Stewart Rhodes in a DC parking garage the day before the insurrection.
Numerous rioters said they attacked the Capitol because Trump asked them to.
